The main campus is just north of the city centre, centred around the iconic Parkinson Building with its clock tower. It's one of the largest single-site campuses in the UK. Everything from lectures to the Students' Union is within walking distance.

Part of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Strong research reputation β top 10 in the UK for Chemistry. Modern labs, dedicated teaching facilities. The practical today will likely be in one of the teaching labs in the Chemistry building on the west side of campus.

One of the largest and best students' unions in the UK. Home to 300+ societies, bars (Terrace, Old Bar, Mine), live music venue (Stylus), shops, and food outlets. This is the beating heart of student social life. Well worth walking through today.

The white Portland stone building with the clock tower β the most recognisable building at Leeds. Houses the Brotherton Library. Great photo opportunity. It's the building you'll see on every prospectus and social media post about Leeds.
First year: most students live in university halls. Second and third year: private rented houses, typically in Headingley, Hyde Park, Burley, or Woodhouse.
Modern, on-campus halls. The Edge is newer with en-suite rooms and a gym attached. Montague Burton is slightly older but still solid, right next to the union. Can't beat the location β roll out of bed into lectures.

One of the largest halls β over 1,000 rooms. Mix of en-suite and shared bathroom options. Very social with its own bar (the Cellar). Catered and self-catered options. About 10 min walk to main campus.

Beautiful traditional hall in a Victorian building with grounds. More of a "Hogwarts" feel β formal dinners, common rooms, real community spirit. Slightly further from campus but a lovely setting in Headingley.

Private purpose-built student accommodation in the city centre. Companies like Unite Students, iQ, and Vita Student operate multiple buildings. Modern, en-suite, often with gyms, cinemas, study rooms. Popular but more expensive.

THE classic Leeds student area. Rows of Victorian terraces packed with students. Walking distance to campus (5β10 min). Cheap rent. Every other house is students. Hyde Park Road, Brudenell Road, and the streets around Royal Park are the epicentre. The famous Hyde Park Picture House (independent cinema) is here.

The other big student area β slightly more upmarket than Hyde Park. Excellent high street with cafes, takeaways, pubs, and charity shops. Home to Headingley Stadium (cricket and rugby league). About 20 min walk or quick bus ride to campus. A good mix of students and young professionals.

West of campus, between Hyde Park and Kirkstall. Budget-friendly option that's still walkable. Has a Morrisons and good bus links. Less "student village" feel than Hyde Park β more mixed community. Burley Road has takeaways, shops, and a Lidl.

Immediately north of campus β you can practically fall out of your front door onto university grounds. Very popular with students who want the shortest possible commute. Woodhouse Moor (the big park) is right there for summer frisbee and BBQs.

North of Headingley. Quieter, more residential, increasingly popular with students who want space and greenery. Meanwood Valley Trail is brilliant for running. Good independent cafes and a proper local pub scene. Bus into campus.

Leeds is compact β the city centre, campus, and student areas are all within walking distance of each other.
The big open park between campus and Hyde Park. In summer this is where everyone hangs out β BBQs, football, frisbee, sunbathing. It's the unofficial student garden. Walk across it today to get a feel for the vibe.
Trinity Leeds is the main modern shopping centre β all the big brands. Victoria Quarter is the posh Victorian arcade with designer shops and stunning architecture. Both in the city centre, 15 min walk from campus.
Stunning circular Victorian building filled with independent shops β vintage clothing, vinyl records, streetwear, jewellery. The kind of place students actually browse rather than just walk past. Worth popping in.
Home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Rhinos (rugby league). Big matchday atmosphere. Students get cheap tickets. If Spencer likes cricket or rugby, living in Headingley means the stadium is on the doorstep.
Legendary indie music venue in Hyde Park. Tiny, sweaty, brilliant. Major bands play here before they blow up. Arctic Monkeys, Alt-J, and dozens of others played the Brudenell on the way up. Cheap pints, amazing atmosphere, proper Leeds institution.
The canalside area near the train station has been regenerated β independent restaurants, bars, and the Dark Arches underneath the station. Great for a walk or a drink by the water. Very different vibe to the student areas.
About 3 miles south of the city centre. Leeds United β love them or hate them, they're a massive part of the city's identity. Student tickets available. The atmosphere on matchdays is electric. Bus from city centre.
Leeds has an incredible food scene β from cheap student eats to proper restaurants. Here are the key spots.
THE Leeds student rite of passage. A fancy dress pub crawl from Headingley to the city centre, stopping at 15+ pubs along the way. Happens most weekends. Not something you do today with your dad β but Spencer needs to know it exists. It's legendary.
One of the largest covered markets in Europe β and where Marks & Spencer was founded. Incredible street food stalls, fresh produce, and some of the cheapest lunches in Leeds. Every cuisine imaginable. This is where students eat well on a budget.
Laynes Espresso β Best coffee in Leeds, near the station. Opposite Cafe β Student favourite on Blenheim Terrace, right by campus. Stage Coffee β Great Northern Quarter. Kapow Coffee β Thornton's Arcade. Leeds has a proper indie coffee scene.
Union refectory β Cheap hot meals in the Students' Union. Bakery 164 β Woodhouse Lane, pastries and sandwiches. MyLahore β Epic South Asian buffet, student prices. Morrisons Merrion Centre β When you just need to microwave something cheap.
If Spencer lives in Headingley, this is his local high street. Mix of takeaways, cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Arcadia Ale House (craft beer), Headingley Taps (student pub), Box Pizza, Nafees (legendary curry). Everything you need within 5 minutes.
Leeds nightlife is one of the best in the UK outside London. Huge variety β from indie clubs to massive commercial nights.
The main going-out street. Wall-to-wall bars and clubs. Call Lane Social, Cuckoo, Distrikt, Headrow House (4-floor venue with rooftop). This is where you'll end up most Friday and Saturday nights.
Wire β Techno and electronic, intimate underground club. Pryzm β Big commercial club, student nights. Canal Mills β Warehouse venue for big DJ nights. Mint Warehouse β Another warehouse spot. Beaverworks β Multi-room venue, drum & bass, techno. Stylus (LUU) β Students' Union venue, cheap entry.
Fruity (LUU) β The classic Friday night student club at the union. Cheap, cheesy, everyone goes. Otley Run β See above. Wednesday Sports Night β BUCS fixtures followed by carnage. Leeds student nightlife is genuinely among the best in the country.
Leeds has excellent sport facilities and a massive BUCS (university sport) programme.
The uni's main sports facility. 25m pool, massive gym, climbing wall, sports halls, squash courts, fitness classes. Student membership is good value. Recently refurbished. Right on campus next to the halls.
The outdoor sports complex in Headingley β football, rugby, cricket, tennis pitches. Where BUCS matches happen. If Spencer joins any sports teams, he'll spend time here.
Woodhouse Moor β Flat loops, 5 min from campus. Meanwood Valley Trail β Proper trail running through woods. Roundhay Park β Huge park with lake, 5K loops, parkrun on Saturdays. Leeds-Liverpool Canal β Flat towpath running, good for longer distances.
The main university library β open late (often 24/7 during exams). Multiple floors, silent zones, group study areas, hundreds of computers. This is where you'll live during exam season. Massive science and engineering collection.
Inside the Parkinson Building. Beautiful reading room β feels like studying in a cathedral. More arts and humanities focused, but anyone can use it. Great for focused work when you want inspiration from the surroundings.
The newest library β opened 2015. Purpose-built, modern, loads of plug sockets, group study pods, individual desks, tech-heavy. Ground floor cafe. This is where most students prefer to study day-to-day.
One of the biggest city parks in Europe β 700 acres. Lake, tropical world (greenhouse with butterflies and meerkats), woodland, formal gardens. Great for a weekend walk, run, or just getting out of the student bubble. Bus from campus.
One of the massive benefits of Leeds β the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District, and North York Moors are all within an hour. Hiking, climbing, wild swimming. The uni has outdoor societies that organise regular trips. This is something you don't get at city-only unis.
Leeds Art Gallery β Free, excellent collection. Royal Armouries Museum β Free, massive weapons/armour collection at the docks. Leeds Playhouse β Great theatre, student discounts. First Direct Arena β Big concerts and events. Everyman Cinema β Upmarket indie cinema in Trinity.
Sainsbury's Local β Headingley. Morrisons β Merrion Centre (city centre, walkable). Aldi β Kirkstall (bus ride, but cheapest option). Lidl β Burley Road. Co-op β Several across Hyde Park and Headingley. Students generally do a big shop at Aldi/Morrisons and top up at Co-op/Sainsbury's.

Leeds β Derby: ~1h30 direct via CrossCountry or East Midlands Railway. Decent for getting home.
First Bus runs most routes. The 1, 6, 28, 56 routes cover Headingley, Hyde Park, and campus. Get a student bus pass β much cheaper than paying per trip. Most students walk or cycle though β the city is compact.
Increasingly popular. Flat(ish) routes between campus, Headingley, and the city centre. Cycle lanes improving. Many students buy a cheap bike for getting around. Lock it properly β bike theft is real in any university city.
